"I'm sure many try to be mindful, but I'm sure even you have been susceptible to being in a hurry that you don't quite mind where you're going in such moments." He shrugged. "But I can't say everyone is careless or careful. So it's best not to take such things for granted an err on the side of caution."
But it seemed like the child at least understood the point, and who was he to tell her not to be dramatic? She wasn't seeming to be, anyway. Children were so strange.
"Is that so? What's fun about it?" He tilted his head. "I'm not sure I follow the connection with becoming a pro-wrestler." Introductions at least were easier to follow.
Mo needed agreeably and scooted back closer to the wall, bouncing her feet as she hugged her knees excitedly at the chance to talk about her favorite thing ever!
"Ohhh, all of it is fun! And pro wrestling isn't just fighting!" She beamed up at him. "It's playing pretend! There's storylines and rivalries and betrayals, and the fighting, you have to be really really good so it looks like you're hurting each other but you're doing it safe, so everybody's okay. So being dramatic is just, very exaggerated emotions! You have been done wrong and you need to backflip headlock somebody about it!"
She tucked her head down with a burst of laughter, then looked back up at Tech with a big smile. "Hi, Tech. Do you like watching stories? What do you like to do for fun? Uncle Optimus writes stuff and likes digging really big holes! He's the best."
"Hm," Tech considered, sounding very serious about it. "Wouldn't 'pretending' be opposite of what you'd expect from fighting? Or is your wrestling very different from what I've thought it to be about? Although I must say, a backflip headlock sounds a bit... impractical."
He fingered the bottom of his beak in thought. "Watching stories... such as watching holovids? To some extent. I do prefer research. I'm not quite sure what might classify as 'fun'. Hunter calls my recording sounds a hobby, so perhaps that might qualify. Admittedly I have not done so lately, but the sounds aboard a starship aren't as interesting as calls of wildlife."
Mo shook her head fast enough that her curls went swoosh. "You're thinking of stuff like boxing or um, wrestling clubs in school? It is a thing! With competitions! But pro wrestling is more like a play or a tv show? It's scripted, the fights are just how the stories are acted out, along with dramatic monologues about GETTING REVENGE FOR BETRAYING MY BEST FRIEND, THIS SUNDAY AT THE CIVIC CENTER!"
She then grinned up at him and giggled, bringing her hands up near her face as her cybersleeve lit up. "Probably! A lot of it wouldn't work in real life fights, it's just to look cool. But the actual wrestlers are real athletic, they really can do the backflips and stuff they do. And it looks so cool, Tech!"
Her grin then shifted to a delighted smile. "Oh, you like stuff like my mom does? She's a park ranger, she liked recording nature stuff, too. Though my dad is a college professor, he does research all the time and gets super into it and excited about it, just like that! I bet both of them would really like you," she said with a fervent nod. "And that means I really like you, too. If mom and dad would think you're the coolest, then you are!"
"Actual fights can be plenty dramatic without a script. But I think my brother Wrecker might enjoy something of what your wrestling is about. I'd say he's the most likely of my squad who would attempt it. He fought an adolescent rancor once, although I can't say it was very dramatic. They both tired each other out."
Tech tilted his head at the girl. She was quite energetic. He wasn't quite used to that. Omega had a different sort of energy, eager but cautious, but then she'd never been away from Kamino so she was still very much looking to her older brothers for guidance.
"Is that so? Well, you must think highly of your parents to base your opinion completely on what you know they'd approve of." He sounded amused. "But I hope to prove your judgment adequate."
